Does a Boss keep it's value better?
 

I'm trying to decide whether I'm going to get a fully loaded GT (track pack, striping, appearance package 5, recaro seats, the works) or a Boss 302.

I got quoted 38700 on the GT and MSRP (42500) on the Boss (44500 with recaro seats in it) and I'm trying to decide whether it's worth spending the extra cash on the Boss. Obviously both cars are pretty awesome.

Will a Boss retain it's value better than the GT or is there not going to be a lot of difference in depreciation? Wondering what the situation will look like 3 years down the line with 30-40k miles on the clock.

I may be wrong but, I don't think your going to see much of a deference. I think some of it is dependent on options and condition as well when the time came to sell.

you are going to get varied answers on this here depending on what people own themselves. i have a boss 302, i didn't buy it with any eye towards resale value. it really depends on what you are going to do, if you want to track the boss is great, if you want to mod for power the forged internals are ideal. if the extra money doesn't bother you go for the boss, it is a limited edition car and should hold value better than a GT. i know of several people that sold or traded used boss 302s for sticker when they were new.

which one should you get? idk what your goals are.
but to me, Mustangs were made to be driven. i would get the GT and mod it.
if you mod the Boss its value goes down, unless you save the stock parts.
but then you have to baby the car, if you want to resell it later.
the Boss is a better car, any way you look at it.
to me, if you are looking for an investment, then invest in the stock market.
if you buy a Mustang, drive it till something blows up, then build it better.
either way, you will get a great car.

You will get the $5k extra you spend on the boss when you go to sell. Options on the GT will be heavily discounted at resale. G/l with a great problem to have!

I'm definitely buying the car to drive it!
I intend to take good care of it but of course it's going to do what it was made for.

I suppose my refined question should read:

ASSUMING I don't break/damage anything during the years in which I own the car and drive it no different from how I'd drive the GT, would there be a difference in value when I think it's time for a new one?

Note that I'm not really thinking about applying heavy mods to the car. I think both look awesome the way they are and unless I become completely addicted to running it on the track I'm not going to add a ton of special parts.

btw the wife's verdict was 'Get the BOSS!'.

If the wife says yes, then do it! Modding the car is no big deal...to me that is what mustangs are mean't for and that is why they make parts for the boss 302 aftermarket. If I were to buy a boss 302 I would buy it and make it mine. Get out from the norms of everyone buying a boss 302 and leaving it "Stock". That may not be the cool thing nor will everyone support your decision but it depends on your goals. If you want the boss 302 then get it, if you want to mod it, mod it. The purists are not paying your car payment are they? No, you are...so who gives a **** what they say do as you please.
