Few Questions for 05-09 Gt owners
Hello Guys, I own a 03 GT and like it but I love the 05-09 look and Im trying to decide wether or not to sell it and buy a 05-09 or just supercharge my 03 Gt. the price difference will almost be the same. Anyhow, here are the questions?
1. Whats the average max engine HP you can get out of the 05-09 engine with all the basic mods with and without cams?
2. Whats your average mpg's
3. Do you think its worth selling my 03 for the 05-09body style?
Thanks. Im trying to decide to sell and buy 05-09 or sell two of my cars and buy a 03/04 Cobra.

MPG is going to vary a lot between members but I get ~18 when in town (not often), ~21/22 rural driving (45mph, few stops), 24+ interstate (mountainous). On I-95 I once averaged 29.2mpg on a tank, 425 miles.
Sell the 03 and upgrade!

1. People have put down right at 300 rwhp, sometimes a bit more, with intake, tune, and full exhaust (long tube headers,o/r pipe).
2. I average about 18 mpg with a city/hwy driving mix. I can see upper 20s on the highway during long trips.
3. The body style, engine, and interior are all better than the pre 05 cars (this is subjective, of course). The 05-09 cars are heavier but faster than the previous GTs. The 05+ won't sound as good as the older cars (again, subjective).
I got to drive my old roommate's Procharged 04 GT to work a few days a week for about a year and I would not trade my car for his, even though his is much faster. Boosting the 03 isn't a bad idea but you won't get the newer car.
I had a chance at an 04 Cobra and bought my 05 GT instead. If I could do it all over again I would trade all of those things I listed above and get the Cobra - I'll leave it at that.

I love my s197, but there is something visceral about the 2V motors... The interior is amazingly better.
I had a 2004, have a 2005 GT now, but almost picked up a 2003 Terminator... Couldn't get past the interior and fit and finish.
I drive 80 miles round trip 5x per week and average 20-21 mpg. I wish it were a little better with the cost of gas going up, but hey, that's not why I bought another Mustang...
I absolutely think if you are unhappy with your New Edge now, then yes it is worth selling it for the S197. Actually, I say definitely yes no matter the reason... The S197 is a huge upgrade in almost every aspect... except the water leak issue... Take some time and read the list of TSBs for the S197 to know what to look for.

I've seen people put down around 320ish with a full exhaust, intake, and tune. With cams, bump that up to 330-340 if you're lucky. They make good power, but unless you port your heads you're staying around that mark.
My average around my town (35 mph with stoplights here and there) is about 20. On the highway I get about 29. I definitely think it would be worth the trade up. I love my 08 GT

Wow thats pretty good power and pretty good mpg's. So lets just say, I added a CAI, x pipe, catback, 65mm TB/plenum, udp's, stage 1 cams, had heads ported and polished by a reputable person, and then had it dyno tuned, I could perhaps get 400 Engine horsepower? Thanks again. And I like what Im hearing. I really do love my 03GT and dont mind just supercharging it, BUT I cant get over how badass the S197's look modded and lowered. I think they are beautiful cars. To me, they have that old 60's era look.

1. Whats the average max engine HP you can get out of the 05-09 engine with all the basic mods with and without cams?
Used Stock: Obviously 300 hp as thats what Ford sold them with.
N/A: I am unsure since I run an F/I setup, but I've read many being around the mid 400 range.
F/I: Unbelievably high. Into the thousand with a built engine.
2. Whats your average mpg's
Cams, Superchargers, mods in general and how you drive can really affect it. I have 11 mpg :P due to a lead foot, Supercharger, Cams, and more.
3. Do you think its worth selling my 03 for the 05-09 body style?
Definitely. Besides the 2013's I find the S197 05-09 model the most beautiful models of the newer generation mustangs (Non-classic). They have a lot of mods available and can have a mach, fastback, Eleanor, etc. look depending on the mods. Superchargers are pretty easy to find. Aftermarket parts are easy to find and are abundant. You'd love it.

- With just about every bolt-on short of going FI, you may be able to put down about 350-360 RWHP, perhaps more with some additional engine work.
- As stated, it varies greatly based on driving habits and WHERE you drive, but I can average about 18 mpg without HEAVY city (stop light every block or 2) driving.
- EDIT (forgot to include highway): I dove a lot of highway with my GT and averaged 24-26 MPG, pump-to-pump, hand calculated (the on-boards tend to be about 1.5-2 mpg off to the high side) running about 65-70 MPH with the 3.55's.
3. Do you think its worth selling my 03 for the 05-09body style?
- I haven't cared for Mustang styling since the mid 70's. I had practically given up on Stangs. But when the '05 came out, it was love all over.

Having owned both sn-95 models and s-197 models there are some good and bad things about both.
The Sn-95s all have a better exhaust tone and in general are a little cheaper to mod/repair
The S-197s have far superior handeling than previous gens and seem much more agile when turning at higher speeds.
The S-197s also respond much better to mods than Sn-95s (excluding 4V Cobras and Machs).
Both will get very similar MPG but I have noticed that once tuned (S-197s run very lean and sluggish from the factory) they do get slightly better MPG than previous generations.
S-197s do have some downsides including more blind spots than the Sn-95s. The interiors of the basic (aka delux) S-107s are very very bland, premium models are much nicer.
