Default Adding seats with side airbags if your car didn't come with them

I bought my 2007 v6 convertible used and I believe the previous owner installed new seats. I got a copy of the window sticker and it said the interior was all dove grey with cloth seats. My current seats are black leather. The window sticker didn't say side air bags but I also noticed the leather seats had the yellow clip underneath. It also looks like the guy ripped off the "airbag" tag on the sides.

Since my seats already have the airbags is it possible to use them? I read some threads where people said just plugging it in would throw a code b/c the computer wasn't designed for them.

Has anyone done this successfully?

Thanks,
Mark

Well Mark. I have ran into the same issue you are having. In short, no you can't. Your car didn't come equipped with the side impact sensors nor the right srs module... I am having an airbag light on issue with these new airbag seats I got. My car was also not equipped with side airbags. I think the old harness in the non airbag seat has some kind of resistor that is needed so the light does not come on.

If you plug in the side air bag electronics on a car that wasn't equipped with them you will get the air bag light. Have to have it reset at Ford based upon a friend's experience.

If you don't plug that sensor in then you won't get a light. It is on a separate circuit and plug.

Exactly. I put a set of leather seats with the side air bags and the lights came on. I undid the plug to the back, and the lights went out. It wasn't seeing the side bags, so no light. The passenger side power seat I installed worked perfectly by just hooking it up. No fuss or problem.

In case anyone ever asks, the passenger side power seat does not go up for more height. It is also much slower than the manual adjuster to move the seat. I've read that the newer cars have a six way seat. Does anyone know for sure? There isn't one at the local dealer to see, so if anyone has information, please help.
