TPMS Bypass

I want to get some new wheels and the Tire Pressure Measuring System which my car has drives up the price by $400 at tirerack. Anyone disabled it ok know a way around it??

I don't need it I check my tire pressure my self and the OEM one I have on malfunctioned a few times especially when it rained, my tire pressure was fine but the warning message came on....

No disable option. Either get the sensors or constantly look at the light.

What year is your car? do you currently have the sensors? you can reuse the stock sensors..

If you can't disable it, couldn't you just take the offending light bulb out of the dash cluster? I think your only other recourse would be a piece of electrical tape large enough to cover the light.

^^This. You can buy new bands so you can re-use the stock sensors. That way you won't have to do the calibration as well.

American Muscle supplies TPMS sensors for 199.00 with their wheel and tire packages. They are the cheapest I have found.

If you're using the same size rim, you should be able to re-use the originals. But if not, you'll need to buy new bands to fit the rim. I got mine at the local DiscountTire for $45 for all 4.

i just press the reset button on the dash and it turns the warning light off.
its free.

I just read on another forum for the 2011's the tpms sensors are attached to the valve stem instead of held in by bands.. So i guess i wont be needing them.

The original sensors should fit onto the new wheels if they are the valve stem type. New bands are required for the other type (I think cutting is the only way to remove the bands that those sensors mount to) Maybe get new batteries for them and don't spend the $400. You say you check your tire pressure, but, just between us guys, is it every time you start the car? The TPMS does!

The sensors are held in place by stainless steel straps (bands). Just buy band kits and swap the sensors to the new wheels. That or press the reset button every time you drive.

EDIT: Opps. Just saw your thread that yours is an '11. Never mind... Just swap the valve/sensor assy...

onederful100 03-30-2012 03:25 PM

i manually check mine every month, not every time i start the car.
and it is rarely low. if its low, i can see it with my eyes.
if it drops below 22 psi, thats when the TPMS warns you. my eye catches it before that.

TPMS is like catalytic conververters, somethink else to break, that you dont really need.
its another expense to pay for that is not needed.
we got by for decades without it perfectly fine.
both the TPMS and the cats i throw in the trash.
