Brakes pulsing could be a warped rotor. I would say that you need to look into a brake job.....or maybe take it to one of the local shops for a "free" brake insp. (That is if you do not do your own work) The local dealer always gives me a free check on things along with the free oil change. They even did a free brake insp. on my grandsons '93 Explorer when he caught an oil change special.

I'll get out the torque wrench and a jack this weekend

Everything feels good without taking the wheel off. I think it might be uneven pad wear.

In either case, its just the front brakes (rears are fine) so it won't totally break the bank.

Sounds like warped rotors to me. Usually they hard to see with the naked eye. Best way to check run out is with a dial indicator.

Your local parts house may rent them.....or sell them.

My guess would be that your rotors are a bit warped. I know that mine are. You can easily pull them and take them over to the auto parts store by the high school and have them turned/trued. It is very inexpensive and if you do that and put on new pads you will be good to go. I can help you if you need it. It is a very simple process. Let me know.
