It sounds like the stepper motor in the gauge. The '05s and early 06's have chronic stepper motor issues in the cluster.

Similar searches with "mustang stepper motors", etc, should get you what you're after. There are several walk-thru's available on this forum alone if you search on "stepper motor".

I wouldn't be, that, the water leak TSB, plug changes(spark plugs are 2 piece that tend to break when pulled for 05-mid08's), the alternator being craptacular, and parasitic drain issues from the shaker head-unit are just about all the major issues if you can call them that, that you're likely to get. See TSB's under articles, and mustang tsbs on the site main menu.

This is a decent one, just ignore the solder removal bit being that hard, if you've done a bit of soldering work before it should be cake, if not, view a couple youtube vids of tutorials on it. Solder-sucker and/or braid, good to go. And yes, you definitely want to do them all if you're going to do this. So get 6, if you have a 6 gauge cluster.

Most of this stuff other than the water leak one (if left untreated for an extended period) are more annoying than true cuss-for-an-hour problems.
