Door chime disconnect 2008 GT
 

I hate starting new threads when the info is already out there, but I couldn't find my answer.

I have crawled under the dash trying to find the door chime so I can disconnect it. I need to be able to disconnect it when I'm working on the car and want to listen to the radio, and need the door open. Rolling the window down, taking out the key, leaving the key in the "on" position, or any other smart-alec comments are not the answer :D I want to disconnect it. I don't need it ding-ing when I'm working on the car. the only thing I wish was that it was a separate dinger than the headlights. I don't lock my keys in the car, but since all my other cars have auto headlights and I've gotten into the habit of not ever having to turn them on (or off) I might end up with a dead battery, but I'll chance it.

Anyone know exactly where that pesky dinger is?

disconnect the battery and use a portable radio...

I think the real answer to what you are asking is how to fool the car into thinking the door is closed. I'm not sure where that sensor is.

I believe you just need to use a screw driver to close the door striker latch to trick the car into thinking the door is closed. I know when you do it the window will go up the 1/4 inch just like when you close the door.

That is correct. That's what they did when my windows were being tinted.

I know about the striker latch. I tried that, but SURPRISE! it's plastic!!! And I gouged it up a bit so I stopped. I stuck my head under the dash and was listening for the dinger but couldn't find it. Anyone know where that little bugger is?

Try feeling up above the clutch/brake pedal area for a small box. It should vibrate when the chime is going. Unplug if you can.

Another way is to pull the covers off the steering column and locate the wire that grounds out the contact in the switch. Older cars used a purple wire I believe.

You can just yank F59 according to that diagram, but of course this will kill the interior lights, trunk light, and the short drop/raise our window motors do each time they sense the door close or open.

Unfortunately, I believe the chime is actually in the cluster itself...might be wrong, but I thought it was.


EDIT: Just for SnG's, I tested this, had to yank 67, F59 wouldn't do it, still got power. But as I thought, the cluster has the chime, which is tied to F67(page 2 again); so yank that(Fuse 67) from the BEC, good to go.
