You can finance the buyout like you do a conventional loan on a car. So he would have leased for X number of years paying down the depreciation, and then financed the residual value over a conventional loan term. So long as you're not getting hit with a buyout premium or added cost to buy the lease, it's not a terrible idea.

I'm leasing a Volt for 207 a month, and saving another 200 a month on gas, for a total savings of 400 a month over my last car.

Bickety... just cause you own a stang doesn't mean it's cheap..lol My tires cost $1300, rotors are $650 for fronts and pads for all four were $250.

Point is, if you mod the car, it just ends up being the same.
