Calling All Experienced 8.8 Re-builders - Gear marking compound pictures inside help!

Installing a used (50 miles) Ford Motorsports ring and pinion I have come up with the following pictures and .010 backlash.

The pinion depth is nearly the same as I measuring the old pinion with the shim and came up with nearly the same numbers with the new pinion (.001 different measuring both several times). Only changed the outer pinion bearing, which does not affect pinion depth

With that said and the pictures below, do I need to adjust my pinion depth? If so how much should I go? Or is all of this overrated and I am fine just bolting the cover on, filling with fluid and going on my way. This is going in a 1931 Ford Model A Hot Rod.

Thanks for any help!

You are braver than me. Gears are voodoo man. And I need to install a Eaten detroit trutrack in mine.

Well a guy in the other forum didn't like that last set so here is where I am now. I moved the pinion off the ring .005. backlash is .011

Opinions?

Mason, sorry to see you're not getting responses. I don't have much background in diffs, but the attached link suggests that your first pattern was right for pinion shims; just needed increased backlash.

Is that what you've been doing (changing side shims, NOT pinion shims?)

Here is the link. Hope it helps. Scroll down to "pattern interpretation".

Oh, by the way, to my non differential expert eye, I think you have improved it significantly.

The contact patches on the ring gear teeth aren't quite as long as in the link I sent though I'm not sure why.
