So I somehow squeezed 46,000 miles out of the stock Pirellis... Last few rainstorms have definitely created some white knuckles.. But now its definitely time for some new tires.

Ive decided to go with the Nitto Motivo tire because I need an all season tire and they have a 60,000 mile tread life warranty. Seems pretty good to me.

My question is.. the stock tire size on there now is 245/45/19. The rims are stock as well.. And unfortunately it looks like theyre gonna be stock for a while. The Nitto tire comes in 245/40/19 or 245/50/19. I know absolutely nothing about tires. Will either of the height differences make a difference on the car and cause problems? And should I lean more towards the 40 or the 50?

I could be wrong here, but aren't the numbers thickness, width, and size of tire? So the 40 or 50 would be width right?

The first number is the width of the tire, the middle is the height of the sidewall which is a percentage of the width, and the last number is the rim size.

Your right. The 245/40/19
breaks down to: 245mm x 40% of the width x wheel size.

From what I see, that tire does not come in a ver usable size for your car. The 245/40/19 is 26.7, which will look small in the Mustang wheel well, and be a pretty small sidewall for a 19' wheel, and the 245/50/19 is too tall. The stock size you have is 27.6, which is ideal for the Mustang.

As usual, Nitto is not considering the Mustang for it's tires if you look at the tire heights for that line of tire, they in 19" they all seem too short or too tall. It's Amazing actually, if you look, there spec listing on tire heights for 19" is exactly missing the height range required for the Mustang which is ideally 27"- 27.7" basically.

Are your wheels 19x8.5 0r 19x9 ??? Even there 275 tires in 19" are exactly missing the range of size for the MUstang! Incredible!

I'd pick another brand. I have Nitto 555's, and am lucky that my 18's have only one choice, otherwise the heights in the 555's are also too short or too tall for the Mustang.

Sorry to see such neglect of a Major performance car by Nitto and Ford. Erik

Yea I figured Id go with them because of the great treadlife warranty they have. And the price isnt too bad either.

Anyone else have any suggestions?

*Edit* Theyre the stock rims. I know theyre 19 inch high but Im not sure about the width.

different sized tires (shorter and taller) will change the accuracy of your speedometer, although very slightly at 5 sidewall difference in either direction.

neither size will really cause you true problems, but neither are very ideal. 50 is a very tall sidewall. 40 will fill less of the wheel well and look kind of goofy to what you are used to seeing.

I would find another tire that matches OEM tire size - no reason to stray since you are on OEM wheels.

Use any of the tire size calculators online to compare stock size to other sizes. You may end up setting the speedometer off a bit.

Depending on the width of your rim, you may want to go to a 255 for a little more attitude and if you can get a bit more sidewall height, that's more sex. Those 30 and even 40 series (like mine) tires just look like crap... rubberbands... ugh.
