Anyone Used a Drop-in K&N Filter
I just went over to the automotove store nad they have drop in K&N filter for 2005 Mustang GT's. The guy told me that I would have a noticible acceleration diference. Any one have one? Comments please? It was around 40 bucks so I might pick one up if it a easy cheap way to get a little more power.

I've used the K&N drop-ins in all my cars before the Mustang. They are less restrictive than the disposable kind so should in fact give you a couple of extra hp and/or better mpg. I have a K&N CAI on my GT so I can't speak directly about drop-ins for that.

It will make a slight difference... maybe 1 or 2 hp increase and maybe 1 or 2 mpg increase... oh, and that warm, fuzzy feeling knowing you aren't tossing extra paper filters into the landfills.

The only way to get a real hp gain with a K&N air filter is to put it on a CAI and add on a high flow MAF and Throttle Body. This does cost money to do, but is well worth it. But no K&N by itself at best will give you a 1-3 hp boost, if your lucky, 5, but thats it and thats at its best.

Any HP or MPG gains are very small, that's true. But add that to the fact that the filter is guaranteed for 10 years/1 million miles and only has to be cleaned every 50,000 miles... That's why I've always gotten them. It's more economical in the long run and saves me buying 100 paper filters.

putting in a K&N filter will be just fine. you'll get from it just about what you'd get from a new intake. which is about 5HP or so as stated.
if a K&N by itself doesn't give much gains, how come during a mustang club dyno day somebody with a STOCK (except magnaflow catback actually) 03 cobra put down 400RWHP on the dot and when they put on JUST the K&N filter, it's second run put down 425RWHP. that's a lot of gain from just a filter. given the cobra has a blower, but still.
