Install day for V @ the B!

Impressions as I drove tonight...
MORE instant power available!
All i hear about it how you loose low rpm torque with a cam, well not with this setup (good call son of 68). Might be the shorties producing more torque to counter the loss from the cams, but butt dyno reads INCREASE low rpm torque/hp...best guess 10-25lbs between 1.5K and 3.5k.
Up top (4K plus) pulls much stronger and a new limiter set at 6350rpm never hurt. It does flatten out in hp increases as expected (shorty vs l/t) @ about 5K rpm...this is were the long-tube is king, but I doubt you would feel the torque increases the shorties provide in the low to mid-range portions of the curve. To me this is a give and take thing, and you have to pick your poison so to speak. DD's need and want instant power and torque...advantage shorty imo.
Sound...well I got a thumps up as we left dinner tonight and she does rumble now let me tell ya.
LOVE MY SHORTIES MAN!!!lol
with the stock midpipe and violators, it has a nice sound and shake, but can (and will) be improved
Very happy with the setup
Special thanks to JD, Son of 68 and my man D for the feedback...pics and video will have to wait till I get back.

I originally wanted to go FI, but after I installed the cams I knew I was done. My car is plenty fast (BTW, there will always be someone who is faster), and I have no desire to trade for a newer GT with the 5.0. My 0-60s average from 4.5 - 4.6 seconds.
Mayo - Try dropping your idle down to 750 RPMs to get a little more rumble from the cams. Brenspeed had my RPMs set at 800 or 850 IIRC.

Mayo - You may want to invest in an catch can if you don't have one already. Not sure if the cams increase blow-by or our cars normally have it, but I empty my UPR catch can every 4000 miles and it is usually a bit over half full.

As blow-by oil makes it into your intake manifold, it coats the inside of the manifold, the intake runners, and the intake valves. This oil residue is mixed with the incoming air and can reduce the octane of the fuel causing detonation (at least I experienced off and on engine pinging before I installed my catch can). I haven't had that problem since I added the catch can.
As I said, I empty it every 4000 miles and my rather large UPR catch can is a little over half full. A cheap mod for N/A peace of mind IMO. A necessary mod for those who are FI!

Crap, now you guys have me wondering...
I proposed to my girlfriend on her birthday last month, so now she feels obligated to spend more than usual on my birthday next month. She knew I wanted longtubes and she mentioned that... BUT NOW... I wonder if I should do shorties and cams like you guys. I DON'T daily my car, and haven't been to the track in years, and do not street race.
I'd planned on LT's and gears before the end of summer, then start saving for a blower and hopefully pull the trigger after the wedding next spring.
I was under the impression that shorties didn't do a damn thing, perhaps I need to re-think this.
Still waiting for videos of this setup.

You definitely get power from LT's, more so than shorties. If I said shorties give you nothing, I would be wrong. They definitely help. Maybe not in the top end like LT's, but for DD, it's all you need.
Like I said when I decided on mine, I could not justify, for what I use it for, the extra $1000 or more for LT's, and the HP difference, which is mainly in the top end. I bought my JBA's and Detroit Rockers for what I would have spent on just LT's. I could certainly afford the LT's, it was just a matter of $$ for my needs.
I talked with JD about his just before I made my decision and I would have to agree with what he said, the shorties are one of his favorite mods.
I'm not talking anyone out of LT's, nor am I praising Shorties, I'm just basically suggesting you consider what you need and expect from your car, and what kind of $$ you want to throw at it.

Any dyno numbers, and what is your car doing in the quarter?

I haven't had it to the track. Don't have a hell of a lot of time for it. I just have a Bama tune that was done for it, so it wasn't run on a dyno. I don't get myself concerned with Dyno numbers. To me, a dyno is to be used for specific tuning. You'll likely get different readings on various dynos, so which number do you choose? The one that makes you feel the best? But is that really the HP? See what I mean. I guess I just believe in choosing what fits you, your car, and your driving, and just go have some fun and enjoy it. It can get to the point where you begin to sacrifice the fun factor.
