Default Super frustrated with this pin

I would have thought this would be an easy replacement, and so far it had been. Now im having some difficulty. I'm sure one of you has done it.

So my car has been losing coolant. I parked it and have been driving my truck. On payday, I bought the thermostat housing since that's a common problem. I put in the old temperature sensor without even thinking of that o-ring that's on it.

I get everything back in place and when I had a friend start the car, it starting pooling out coolant out of the temperature sensor. Bought a new one, but im having a hard time putting this pin back in. I really don't want to take the housing off again. Anyone have any tips for getting it back on?

Any help is appreciated!!

Update: Got the everything in. Filled up the coolant between the lines of the tank and drove it for about 15 minutes. When I got back it was about half way gone. Guess the system just needed to be burped.

Topped it off and went for a shorter drive. Got back and it stayed around where I filled it at. I drove it to work this morning, about a 30-45 minute drive. When I got to work I looked under the hood and it was on the lower line of the tank.

I put a little more in there and when I get home, i'll check it again. I've already replaced the t-stat housing, temperature sensor, and the thermostat. Do you think i'm still leaking coolant somewhere? Or is the coolant filling up smaller air pockets? I just want this fixed so I can spend money on mods instead of repairs.

After losing coolant, you should fix whatever the leak is, then run the engine for awhile with the radiator cap or tank cap off. Let the engine get to operating temp and burb out all the air. The fluid line will go down, and you'll top it back off.

As long as you're not leaking or burning coolant, you're probably just filling in the air gaps that are slowly getting out. But go ahead and run it for awhile in park with the cap off to ensure you're getting the air out.

Don't pull either cap when the car is hot.

Keep an eye on it - are you sure you got the old "O" rings out and the new set in place correctly? If not, you may be leaking around the housing still.

I am 99.9% sure I got the old rings out and everything set correctly. I put coolant on all 3 o-rings, the one on the bottom of the housing, the t-stat, and the sensor.

When I got home, I checked it, and it didn't go down that much. Im going to do what siggy said and pull the cap off and let it idle. Then after that, I'll keep a close eye on it.
