I believe the fix is going to be major engine work that will cost thousands. It would seem that you're the latest victim of the #8 cylinder letting go. That sucks man.

You know, the one thing I miss about my previous 3 4.6L stangs is that I never worried about blowing up an engine with an intake/tune.

Sorry to hear the bad news, not much you can do....ford won't warranty due to the tune....you could try. Who did you buy the tune from, maybe they have a warranty program in place...doubt it though, they'll blame Ford and Ford will blame the tune. It's a no win situation. Looks like your gonna need a new block.

I would put the stock box back on if your gonna try to warranty the work.

Pinn posted a link previously that had the specific TSB referenced.

And I quote:
ISSUE:

Some 2011 F-150 and 2011-2012 Mustang vehicles equipped with 5.0L engine may have unauthorized modifications to the powertrain hardware and/or calibration which may result in exceeding component design limits. Such modifications could cause damage to the powertrain and/or void the factory powertrain warranty.
The following list contains items that are frequently modified in an effort to increase the engines torque/power output. Modifying these items may, or may not improve the performance, but can lead to drivability issues, DTCs and possibly component failures:
  • Air induction system (air box, air filter, zip tube)

Ford can tell that the car was tuned, there is nothing you can do about that. There is a specific TSB out that calls for the computer to be sent to corporate on any car that comes in with #8 issues. The car will throw a CEL with the intake and no tune most likely...

What other mods do you have btw?

The CAI doesn't necessarily affect your warranty, but the tune is a different matter.

If the tune caused the failure then that isn't Ford's fault because it wasn't their work that caused your problem.

Sorry to hear your issues, that sucks!
If your CAI requires a tune and you revert back to stock, you will run lean (throw a CEL) and your car may knock and ping. If you decide to change the car back to stock, I would recommend re-installing the stock airbox.
