used 06' GT over 100k . Deal or no deal?

A modern mustang gives you all the comfort, safety and speed in a nice affordable package whereas the 04's were just piles of junk that Ford slapped together until they had the S197 on the road. They slapped in a great motor to cover up the rest of the car that was a disaster as they knew they would sell few since the 05s were coming out.
Are you really going to tell me you can compare an 04 to an 05 in terms of a complete package? They were great cars for their time but they are old and out dated. The OP is going to spend his last dime on his dream car, an 04 would be so stupid as it's already 8 years old and designed basically in the early 90's.

He's spending 14k on a used car. I doubt it is a dream car. He is a younger person just starting out the fun journey of life, work, and the corporate ladder for pay.
Why not an 00-04? I don't car what you say, it's not a POS. I loved mine. Totalled it and walked away without a scratch so it is not a death trap. They are much cheaper and as far as power goes, which he is looking for, he will get the best bang for his buck without being cash strapped.
I would much rather have an 00-04 GT with 50k miles on it and a payment low enough I could mod the crap out of it as opposed to a 05-current that the payment was at my max and I couldn't even afford a CAI if I wanted one.

However, the entire argument is moot as he wants a 05+ for the body style. I would save a few k more and get one with less than 100k miles on it.
OP - Don't be afraid to travel. When you do, you will find shhh like this. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2005-...item2c67198351
Spend a few hundred fixing that rear passenger fender and you have a car that you won't get rid of for years and years.

Now that I see the car with those horrendous wheels, i'd say wait and be patient. Those are the style of wheels I see on rapper's escalades and cadilac CTS's, lulz. It is clean, but I'd much rather find a bone stock 05-07 with around 60k miles for $12k and just mod is as you go, you can grow with the car.
IMO, ideally you want one that's already BPU, so that they eat the cost of the mods.. you basically get them for free. Such as CAI/tune, headers, exhaust. Other things are gears (3.73's or 4.10's), short throw shifter, cams, wider and stickier tires out back, lowering springs. All of those mods make the car far more fun to drive over the stock 300hp.

ok Thanks everyone for their input ! but i've decided against this particular car for a few reasons. The first being the lot it was at. Both tires on the passenger side where completely flat meaning to me that that place doesn't care enough about the car to keep it up while it was there. also the rims all had some sort of corrosion along the inside. lets just say it was sketchy. However this morning i went to a bmw dealership where they had a black 07 GT which was Beautiful ! only 70k miles , so i test drove it and fell in love ! the interior is great and i loved the feel of the manual transmission. the price is 13,994 (From 17,881) so i will keep you guys posted . Hopefully my next post will be asking yall about exhaust upgrades .! lol

I thought $18k seemed way high but NADA value in my area is $17,500 for clean retail for that car. Clean trade in would be 14,500.... i'd see if they would take $13k for it

As many others have said, if they couldn't get the price to 10k or less, I'd walk away. These cars depreciate[sp] pretty quick, and >100k miles doesn't help. If you showed further interest in the car, I'd take it on a thorough test drive with a knowledgable elder to listen for any obvious problems. I'd also highly suggest finding a reputable local garage and have them look everything over for you that the average car-buyer doesn't check...condition of oil, trans fluid, differential fluid, tire wear (alignment issues), suspension play, underbody damage, etc etc.
Otherwise, the car looks VERY clean for its year/mileage, and overly unmolested.
And finally, if they can't get it under 10k, take that money and buy a solid 60's Mustang

I'd hold out OP for something with less than 8k/yr. It took me 6 months to find my 05 GT and I spent a lot of time driving around No. Cal where the market is too high for Mustangs. I finally ended up at a Suburu Dealership where they just wanted the car off the lot. The car had a sticker of 17k and was listed for 15k on cars.com with only 51k miles. I told them I could do 15k out the door tonight and even got a 4 yr/48k mile warranty. So all in all, I got it for $13.8k with a 4 yr warranty and I am pretty satisfied with it. I have been online everyday since and haven't seen anything close to that even on CL where its a crap-shoot sometimes.
Take your time. Its a lot of money for us poor folk so make sure its the right one. Never be in a rush. That's when you could make regrettable decisions.
