need some help

Hi all,

For whatever reason, this is the only forum I'm allowed to post in, maybe because I'm new... In any case, went to the strip today to see what the car can do. The car is bone stock 6 speed manual, and the only clean run it did was a 13.64@105mph with a 2.3 60 foot time. It was 93 degrees with 75% humidity so I know that wasn't helping. Still, seems pretty slow for a 5.0. I think some better tires will be pretty useful, so I went nuts trying to find an 18 inch drag radial, but that doesn't exist. So, I found this combination on Jegs http://www.jegs.com/i/Weld-Racing/92...oductId=746350 with this http://www.jegs.com/i/BF-Goodrich/13...oductId=750350 will this fit? I'd hate to order it and not fit. Does anyone have any suggestions as to either other tires or possible reasons why the car went a bit slow?

Thanks

the heat definitely doesn't help, but people are able to pull much better 60 foot times on stock tires. I don't think you should rush to upgrade your car to find out why it's not as fast as you want it to be, but rather keep practicing in your current car set up. perfect it, THEN look at upgrades for better times.

with enough seat time you can pull 2.0-2.1 on good runs on your stock tires. have you considered lowering the PSI of your rear tires a little bit to help?

I will leave the fitment question to someone else

I did - 19psi for that run. The other runs were at 25psi and launched at 2000 rpm which resulted in the tires getting destroyed.

launching takes a lot of practice, and that practice is not cheap! 19 psi is pretty aggressive, I'd keep it in the mid 20s while you tinker.

you shouldn't be spinning much or destroying the tires when you've figured out about how much accel pressure and the rate at which you drop the hammer to full throttle.

Keep practicing, did you go to Englishtown today? It was hot and humid, not many car will run to their greatest potential in this weather. I attached a decent tire combo, good luck in the future.

yep, I was at Etown today. It was brutal. Hope thats the reason the car only trapped 105

in sept/oct you should be a lot faster....the stangs love the cool fall air.

Also, watch your burnout. Doing a John Force style burnout with street tires often does more harm than good. A good spin to get the dirt and grime off them is often all you need.

I really didn't do a burnout at all. Just a quick dump of the clutch for a second, but thats it. I know not to do a burnout with street tires. Gotta look into those drag radials if I ever go back to the strip

Launching these cars is tricky. I got a best of 13.4@108 without revving at all, just launching from idle. Those all seasons suck. If I revved an higher, it would roast the tires. I think 2.3 was the best 60' I managed. Granted, my time is due to being at 4600ft above sea level, but the mph seems right on.
