A thought to sell

I would not eat the hit you would take on selling that car.
Think of the hit you lose vs what you paid for it and that saves you gas right there lol.
Seriously... the 5.0's get decent gas mileage and since you have a manual you can adjust the way you drive it to cut down on the gas mileage.
Keep the RPMs at the good gas mileage points if you dont already... and it will soon just become the normal way you shift.
You have a car that absolutely can stand with its average gas mileage for a car it's size. No point in trading unless you are gonna buy a hybrid or something.
And yes you will regret losing your 5.0 my friend.
You will be HAUNTED every time you see a Mustang on the road.

That 2008 Tahoe must be close to being paid off. No point in selling it now if it's about paid for, even with that gas mileage. For what you want to do, you should sell the Mustang and buy something fuel efficient but USED. You don't go out and save money by buying new cars, especially if your wife is looking at Infiniti's.
Her thoughts are cheaper car payments while saving gas.

Keep the car, and car pool...or buy a junker DD for $1500....I have a 1997 Oldmobile for the mileage....talk to your family, I'm sure there is someone who is about to buy a new car, and is going to trade their existing car for nothing!
Making the junker the DD, will also reduce the insurance costs!

Car pool is too hard, tried it. Schedules at work make it difficult.
All my family is smart except me when it comes to cars. Cash only or a car they paid of years ago with intentions of keeping.
My insurance for both is <$100 with $250K/$500K limits.

I did some more looking around today. I seen one for 29K with all my stuff minus the hood/wing package.

True, but that's a one time hit to secure ongoing savings. If everyone was perfect about saving cash, you wouldn't have to consider that factor, but people don't save. They see cash sitting free and spend it. Hence why people will pay more for a better MPG vehicle, versus saving the one time cash of buying a cheaper car and using the cash saved to offset gas costs. That cash saved inevitably gets spent elsewhere, rather than being saved to offset gas costs.
If we were all like the old days the economy would be a lot better, too.

The purchase price was 32K and they allowed $18,500 on my 07.
HAUNTED, I love it. I sold my 99 and made it 4 months before buying my 07.
Thanks for all the positive replies...I wish I knew how to multi-quote to keep my replies to a minimum.
We're still talking about it. From the conversations today.....She is totally against me getting rid of the stang, but looking to replace her unit still.

I agree on focus being a money saver. She's stuck on cross over; flipped a sedan in her teens. She feels safer and needs room with both kids. Frankly, she just wants it lol.
She keeps telling me no to me getting rid of the car. She says I work harder and make more money.. WOW old school, but I just don't feel right LOL.
