2012 V6 Mustang engine running hot
Hello Everyone,
I have a 2012 V6 Mustang whose engine runs really hot. After only a few miles of regular driving the fan will come on and you can feel the extreme heat coming off the engine when you have the windows down. It does this all the time. Even when the temp outside is in the 40's my fan will come on after a few miles of driving becuase the engine is so hot. I have even had the fan running whem I'm on the highway doing 70 mph. I've had the car for a year and originally thought it was just a break in thing. But it is not getting better, only worse.
I took the car to 2 seperate dealers. The said it was normal. I even contacted Ford and they said it was normal. But I test drove another 2012 Mustang and it did not heat up so much and the fan did not come on after a few test miles.
I noticed the grill is basically half closed with part of each side blocked and behind the pony emblem blocked.
Could this be an airflow issue or a themostat issue?
Has anyone had a similar issue with a 2012 V6 Mustang?
Thanks!

If the A/C is off, then it doesn't sound normal to me. The fan should not run when the car is doing 70 mph, because the airflow thru the front of the car at that speed should be sufficient to cool the radiator. Plus, the engine should be only partially warmed up after driving a few miles from a cold start in 40 F ambient temps.
If the fan turns on after a cold start with the engine only idling and the temperature gauge showing only a partial warmup, then something is wrong. Perhaps the coolant level is low, or the thermostat, water pump, or coolant temperature sensor is dodgy.

When you say it's running hot, you are basing this on your water temperature gauge? If the needle is straight up, you most probably do not have a temperature problem. Your water temperature sensor which turns the fan off and on may be incorrectly set, or you may have a problem with your thermostat. First, get your working water temp checked. 200F or below is normal, above this is running hot. Your fan should turn on at 195F - 220F.
If your water temp is high, check out your coolant, color should be amber colored. Have your local auto parts place check the specific gravity. Maybe you have a low glycol to water mixture. Next, if that's o.k. burp your radiator. You do this by starting your car, leaving the reservoir cap open, turn on your heater full on, and let your car come up to temp. If your coolant level drops or bubbles/gurgles, you had air trapped in your system. Add a 50-50 mix of ford radiator fluid, to the hot line in your reservoir. Close the radiator cap, and run your car. If the car is still running hot, you either have a thermostat problem or a water pump problem. Your dealer should be able to run all of these tests. If not, take your car to another dealer.

My numbers are based on my 2011 V6, which is monitored by an aeroforce gauge. My normal temps were 200 - 205 before the fan kicked on. I have a procharger, and the rubber seal from the radiator shroud came loose and was sucked into the fan. Temp went up to 230F before the fan fuse blew and my car overheated.
