Is trading a 2011 v6 for a 2008 gt an upgrade or downgrade?

If you are thinking about a Bullitt, you may want to consider a 2010 GT. The 2010's have the 4.6 with all the Bullitt upgrades. Plus, you get the advantage of the interior upgrades of the 2nd series 197's.
But, alas, the '05-'09's do have a better rear end.

I'd say you need to step back and decide what you really want. Sounds like there's more to this story...if the v8 is what you want and you've always wanted the Bullitt then I'd say do it. Doesn't sound like youre terribly happy with your v6 as it stands now, even though you're getting a lot of compliments on it. You're the one who has to be happy with the car...not everyone else.
Sorta like the rumors about Shania Twain I used to hear...really fine looking lady but she didnt believe in gettin it on for fun, only for making kids based on her religious beliefs...so why date or marry a really hot chick if she never goes past first base? Everyone else might be all googly eyed over her but you gotta sleep with it every night.

Also gotta look at the fact that the bullitt is about 4-5 years old now, while that 2011 is coming up on 1-2 at most.
The warranty (if you care about that stuff) is not going to be lasting much longer (if any at all) on that bullitt. However, I hear the GTB mufflers are pretty nice =)
I'd go with the 2008, but you need to assess your future plans for your car first- do you want to go fast? Heavily mod it? Because in that case, the 3.7 is gonna need a new driveshaft, while the GT might not. Do you want comfort, with a quiet ride? Then the 3.7 will always be better in that regard, unless you really throw money at the 08s interior.

I may be biased towards 05-09 models, but even that aside I would still say go for the Bullit. It's a special edition car so it will be worth more later, it's got a V8 (which personally I think no Mustang should go without), and the interior is damn beautiful. But in the end, it's your call.

People compliment "my" a$$ all the time haha
I've actually had 2 people stop me today to compliment me on the car.
In either case, both are damn good looking cars - but I think I would go for the Bullitt. It may end up collectible, and it'll sound better.

Hopefully this doesn't offend our fellow non-V-8 owning Mustangers, but did you ever watch that Fast & Furious Tokyo Drift movie? Where the "heros" put a turbo inline 6 in a vintage fastback? Uh, NO! I realize Ford's bread & butter Mustangs have always been the inline 6, later V-6 & (gulp!) 4 cylinder versions, but can you imagine Steve McQueen using a 6 cylinder fastback? Carroll Shelby using the inline 6 as the starting point for the Shelby Mustangs? The remake of Gone in Sixty Seconds with a 6cyl powered Eleanor?
Ultimately up to you and YOUR preferences, but I would find an older V-8 Mustang before choosing a 4 or 6 cylinder version(no matter how much HP they offer), just isn't the same IMHO. The '10-'13 cars are just not my cup of tea, to me they are bandaged up versions of the '05 model to keep up with the times. I realize the '05-'09 cars are considered "inferior" nowadays, but nothing gets my heart racing like a super clean, '05-'09 GT or '07-'09 GT500(and the various Saleens/Steedas/Roushes). The newer cars are, of course, more developed, but come on, it's basically the same car, all the suspension hardpoints are identical, the interior layout is the same(save for the dashboard/center console/materials). I nearly bought an '11 GT/CS(too many miles on it for the price), but I always wanted a glasstop 2009 GT(last year of original model, 1st year of glasstop).
I totally not familiar with the 3.7L V-6 cars and I'm sure with their gearing and weight are just as fast(maybe in certain circumstances faster) than the '05-'09(and '10) GTs.
I cannot comment on their potential(power-wise), but the 4.6L 3 valve has very developed aftermarket(heads/cams/intakes/supercharger/turbocharger/stroker) options that, up til now, the 3.7L V-6 doesn't have. Like someone posted, getting a 2010 GT would be something to look into if you are not willing to "sacrifice" comfort and refinement of your 2011 V-6. I wonder if anyone in 2000 had that dilemma in regards to trading their 190hp 1999 V-6 for a 205hp 2V 1996 GT? Hmmmmm

This is a no brainer. Your trans is potenially fubar on the 2011 and the the bullitt has one of the coolest dash setups ever. 4.6 motor has awesome up grades available that have been working for years. My 06 GT turns heads everyday I drive her. IMO the 05-09 is a classic design that will stand out for years to come. Nothing wrong with other years they just got this run right.
