Default 05 GT MPG/Performance Concerns

So I purchased this car about 2 months ago from a local dealership with 56k miles on it. I had to compromise with my wife and get an auto, she refuses to drive a manual. The car seems to run fine except for the occasional down shift clunk. No aftermarket mods.

I have consistently averaged 13-13.5 MPG strictly city driving. Literally 5 miles to work and back, stop and go, never faster than 45mph. Not getting on it, just driving like a regular human being. Is this right? I know the sticker will say 18mpg city but I never buy into that. Is 13 mpg right on an auto or could there be some underlying issues with the car?

Also, this thing is gutless. I sold my 00 GT, 5 spd, no mods, last year and it was much quicker. Is it me or are the autos just kinda lame? Could there be some performance issues with the car?

What are some things I could look at?

Thanks for any help. I'm almost at the point of taking it in to get a complete check or selling it and getting a GTO.

Sounds like something is wrong to me.. Even when I throttle mine a little hard driving around town I still average 17 at least... Flooring it I would get 12-13.. Also, it should feel much quicker than a stock 00... I'd check the usual; air, fuel, spark

5 miles of nothing but traffic and I'd expect not much more than 14-15 MPG. But it's worth checking the usual: tire pressure, plugs, replace air filter, replace fuel filter, clean the TB, etc. I've also found that the ethanol content can impact fuel mileage by as much as 4 MPG.

These S197's respond very well to a CAI & custom tune for the sake of about 15-25 RWHP. You can also remove the "tortourous path" restrictive honeycomb thing in the 05's stock intake for a few single digit RWHP.

I agree with NUKE, you could have a fuel filter issue and/or minor service issues but your MPG sounds ok for the type of driving you do. I also agree you can enhance the performance with a good CAI and tune and not lose any mpg.

Well whatever you do don't get a GTO hahaha. Get it checked out, it's not bad to drop a few bucks just to be sure.

I'd agree with these guys. When I bought my 05 I was shocked at how well it performed. Don't have any idea what it gets for city mileage, but it sure runs.

I agree with them with the MPG. Before cams I was in the 12-13 range, but now in the 9 MPG range. what is your average speed?

Yeah I have noticed a decrease in performance and MPG in my 06 as well. I've done all of the above minus spark plug because in these cars it can be a potential/costly nightmare.

If there are a bunch of stop lights then that seems normal. If you steady cruise at 45 then i'd expect 18-20.
