2010 GT or 2012 GT?
Hi Everyone,
Im a big BMW fanatic but I have recently been thinking about trading in my old M3 for a newer mustang. My friend has a 2012 GT and its a very fun and powerful car to drive! My question is, which is a better year, the 2010 or the 2012? Which year has less problems and which year would be less cost maintain? My M3 has not been the most reliable car and I was looking for something a little more reliable but still fun. I know the 2010 has the older 4.6 V8 with less power than the new 5.0 but in my eyes they both are powerful and fast so thats not the primary concern, im more concerned about the longevity and cost of maintenance overall.
I do have my eye on a nice 2010 but am not sure about problems so I though Id ask some fellow mustang members!
Thanks in advance

if your not measuring your wiener over who has more power and really dont care if you have 325hp or 412hp stock the 2010 is just as fun and the trans and motor are pretty bullet proof it seems.
I really loved my 2010 I had..it may not have been as fast as the 5.0 but it sure looked and sounded good and it ran pretty damn good.

Both are reliable cars and will handle any type of abuse you throw at them, within reason.
The 4.6 is a more stable platform as it has been used for years. The manual transmissions in the 11-12 GTs have been known to have shifting issues but are mostly resolved by changing the transmission fluid (thinner?).
The 5.0 motor has had an issue with the #8 cylinder blowing due to tuning errors but happens VERY rarely. Some companies, like Bama, offer a warranty for all of their tunes (Bama has even paid to fix 2 5.0s with a popped #8). If you don't plan to mod then both would be a reliable DD hands down.
If you plan to mod, the 5.0 will respond better to mods as far as power output and the 4.6 would be a more bulletproof motor simply because it has been around longer. Granted, with modding any car you always run the risk of making a vehicle less reliable.
Hopefully all of this helps! Good luck with your decision.

Styling wise, the 2010 and the 2012 will likely be indistiguishable to most people, save for the 5.0 emblem on the side. Interior wise, they would both be nicely appointed and most likely no one would be able to tell the difference between years.
The pro to getting the 2010 would be that the cost of entry would be much lower than the 2012.
The pro to getting the 2012 would be the newer engine. If you ultimately want a machine that will push 5-600 HP on the stock block on pump gas, the 5.0 is the better choice. Granted at that power level, it would be wise to have a fund set up for when the block goes, but there are a plethora of forced induction options out there for the Coyote.
I don't think anyone could go wrong with either choice though.
