New headers exhaust system

Please have a look at those pictures and let me know what you guys think. I have a dealership / garage in town and my mechanic happen to have some bbk short headers that he took off a mustang a while ago. He said he can put them on for me for $450 including labor. You guys think i am getting a good deal?

Vehicle has JLT cold AIR, SCT 93 octane tune and under drive pullies. Will need to retune after installing these.

$450 includes the headers and bbk x pipe? I put my JBA's in myself and it was a pain! I probably would have paid the $450 just for Labor!

+!

Installing those headers are pain in the @ss.. $450 includes parts and x-pipe is a steal(well, depends on the condition of the parts. It doesn't look bad in pix.)

Yeah that's probably a good deal. Just a heads up - don't expect much in the way of power gains from the shorties, they are more of a sound improvement. If you want power, spend the money for a set of long tubes.

While I will agree with you on the shorties not gaining as much as the long tubes, I personally noticed a difference. Now...since you are also installing that x pipe with cat delete you will notice a huge difference in sound and performance.

just dont get busted with no cats, its a huge fine

Ahh! I stand corrected then, Thanks for clearing that up.

Header installs are a huge PITA and plenty of shops will charge $450 or more just for the install. If your getting the parts and labor for that price its a good deal. They wont give you the increase of what longtubes will do but the tone will improve for sure. Its a coin toss really.

Sweet, thx for the replies. I went ahead with the installation, i helped my mechanic install them and it took us 5 hours since our shop is not exactly designed for exhaust work. We had to do it on the floor and "pain in the ass" is an understatement. The car sounds amazing now and seems that it got louder and better the day after. Here is a video of it, right after the installation.

Stupid me, i forgot to mention that the car is a 2005 Mustang GT with JLT CIA, under drive pullies and 93 octane Dyno tuned. How necessary is to tune it right now? Its gonna cost me and additional $200

I noticed a big difference in the sound so far. performance wise, hard to tell but not fair to say yet before tuning it. Lets just say, people stop their conversations and turn their heads to look at the car when i am driving by. I am Loving it so far, and so glad i went ahead with it :)

You should get your tune adjusted for the cat delete.

Sounds nice. Are you running stock mufflers?

no sir. I have flowmasters. It was the first thing i have ever done to the car, a week after i got it. They basically just cut the stock mufflers and welded the flow masters 40s series on there, nth fancy but was cheap way to get outta the stock sound.

The video sadly doesn't do the car justice, bad camera.

I will get that tune as soon as possible, can't wait to run it. I do 13.2 @ 107 in the quarter, you think its possible to break into the 12.9 with that upgrade?

hootie_john 10-30-2012 04:28 PM

Sounds good man!

Thank you, will post a better video with an HD camera after the tune :)

Now THAT'S how a Mustang should sound! Nicely done! You should definitely have the tune adjusted to make the most of the headers and cat delete.

Thank you, iam loving it. tune will be done next week, my engine light just came on and my mechanic said it was because of the cat delete, so gotta do it ASAP.

Here is a better video of it, closer to the real deal :P
