Default 2013 Mustang - drivin' in the rain

Just an observation that I have made - I always wipe out the engine bay a day or two after having driven in the rain. It would not take much for my 2006 engine bay to get quite dirty. However, I have noticed this is not the case for my 2013. I drove in some significant rain yesterday and when I popped the hood in my garage this evening I was quite surprised that it still looked really clean. Must be a better overall design for water flow.
Of course, I wiped it out anyway!

I think the 13's have guards under the front of the engine bay, either to keep air or water, or both out of the engine bay.

From helping out a friend with suspension install on his 2012 I noticed that there is a large plastic pan under the front of the newer S197's which I would guess is probably why the engine bays stay cleaner.

That would only keep the bottom clean.

The 05-09 mustangs are notorious for having air flow issues under the hood with the OEM hood. Just get up to 75 or 80 mph on any highway and watch the edge of the hood that is parallel with the fender. Towards the front of the ca, that edge will be dancing. Even if you have minimal movement, the air is still getting between the grill and the hood. Ford did a crummy job of wind tunnel testing this area.

That is where all the crap in top half of the engine compartment comes from.

Original Poster, I noticed this as well on my 13. On my 2010 I would go into nervous breakdown dreading the post rain clean up task. It rained here for two days last month and when I popped the hood, to my surprise, it was spotless! Kudos to whatever Ford improved in that area.

Can any of this new stuff be retrofitted to a 2010 GT? Sometimes my engine bay looks like a farm truck.

It is because the 2013 is so much faster than the 2006, the dirt cannot stick to it.
