I'm just shocked that such a massive issue, literally 9 out of 10 mustangs have this problem and all we have to go on is 1 blurry video that looks like it was filmed with a potato, no video for sealing the grommets. No video how to properly test this, with my luck I will flood the SJB and be out $600 by tomorrow evening.

after you get all the leaves and crap out off the area take those grommets and cut em open some more. Probably wont be an issue unless you are parking under an oak tree.

While some would support that suggestion, some would say that cutting the grommets open more could allow dangerous fumes to get into the passenger cabin.

If you know that debris can collect in the two grommets, it's no big deal to stick your hand in there and clean them out on a frequent basis.

The grommets I am refering to are in illustrated in Figure 1 of the TSB. This picture shows up under the cowl cover on the passenger side. As soon as you pull both of the cowl covers you see the 10 or so grommets.
Also check the seam in Figure 2, IIRC mine had sealer in it but I resealed it anyway. I figured I might as well get everything while I was in there.

I didn't have a chance to read this whole thread, but did you check to see if your cabin filter was wet? If so, then it's just a plugged up drain on the passenger side.

I just did it, the filter was as black as tar and the 1 rubber drain piece was clogged completely.. literally with 1/2 pound of tree sludge. and had like 4 inches of water which i vacuumed out.. I couldnt find any of the grommets mentioned, I didnt even know where I was looking.. pictures of the grommets just show the grommet but dont show at all where they are located.. I bought sealer but didn't even open it.. the car now drains the water.. should I be done? how important is sealing these grommets? if it is, how do I locate them? "near the fire wall" didnt seem to help me

If your cabin air filter showed signs of being wet, then you likely have lucked out and do NOT have the TSB-related issue. Plugged drain grommets (there are 2) allow water into the cabin via the filter. Great design, Ford.

The grommets are right below the windshield line there is 10 of those that run across the frame.

Its a simple job to remove those and check them. And if u dont have a garage and park under trees alot then u need to check them every so often. Its not as hard as your making it out to be

That should be it. Your leak was because that little drain hole on the bottom was blocked, and water poured into your car from the air filter opening.

This is the most common reason for water leaks in the S197.

You can seal those top grommets as a just in case, but you should be clear for now.

There is also a drain on the driver's side, you will need to remove the wiper arms to get to it on the top side, but you can also reach it from the bottom side. It will just be harder to remove any stuck material from the underside of the car. But the passenger side is where the water leaks into the cabin from, though it's a good idea to clear the driver's side as well.
