Sounds like another rod bearing issue, save for yours actually let go.

Tell 'em to replace the engine. I wouldn't say it's "common" but it IS going around on a LOT of 5.0's. Usually starts after a not-so-careful dealer does an oil change and doesn't add enough; from the info that I've collected.

My personal opinion, based solely on rumors, gossip, internet FUD, is either detonation killing the rod bearings or 5w20 can't handle the load of the 5.0.

I've read a lot of posts from people data logging their 5.0's and seeing a lot of knock sensor activity.

What oil were you using? There's no reason why you can't run a 5w30 full syn all year round. I'm going to switch to red line 5w30, but I only change my oil once a year. I put about 5-6k miles per year on my car. I'm even considering valvoline vr1 10w30 full syn, but my engine is unnaturally aspirated.

If I owned a new 5.0? I'd probably have opted for the track pack and be running castrol 5w40 spt.
Amazon Amazon
That's the one that meets all the Euro car specs. That way ford can't try to void my warranty for running a thicker than recommended oil.

For what it's worth, I believe Ford specs 5w50 for gt500's and track pack cars, because they don't make a 5w40. Same reason Harley Davidson specs a 20w50 for my motorcycle.
