I considered the Continental Extreme Contact but they weren't available in a 285/40 rear tire.

Yeah, they have the DW in that size but not the DWS, it's biggest in 18" is 285/35 or 295/35.

Running Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercars (275's) with GT500 wheels on all four corners. Never had an issue with them sliding out from under me at open track events even on a cold track (unless I induced it on corner exit). However, I do agree that wider tires do not like standing water at all.
