Service Question Regarding Oil- Dealership Messed up Again!!
Just got a new 2013 Mustang GT Premium with the GT Track Package. Like any good owner would do, I read the maintenance information in my manual which included a special card noting that with the GT Track Package I needed to use only Full Synthetic Oil 8.5 qts and a different coolant along with some other notable maint. items. My question is in regards to the oil. I took the vehicle into the dealership at 3000 miles for the first oil change and I confirmed twice with the service tech that they too also knew that my vehicle needed only Full Synthetic oil to which they confirmed. I brought the vehicle home and have put about 3K miles on this oil. When a buddy of mine was looking for the invoice he noted that the oil on the invoice was not Full Synthetic but a synthetic blend. And sure enough after calling the service department they confirmed that yes the part number on my invoice is for a synthetic blend oil. They apologized and offer to flush out the oil and put in the correct fully synthetic oil. My question is, could there have been any damage done to my vehicle while using the synthetic blend oil for about 3k miles? Ford made a point to put it in their manual to use full synthetic and Ive read articles where ford vehicle engines have failed and when customers try to claim warranty on it, their claim is denied because ford is able to show that the proper oil was not used in the vehicle. What do you all think?

Full synthetic is for the track, nobody needs full synthetic in a stock motor. Your motor is no different than any other 5.0.
It was not to long ago that people on this very forum were stating that you couldn't run a 5w50 or anything thicker than 5w30 in these mod motors due to the close tolerances and narrow oil passages. Now ford is recommending 5w50 in the track pack 5.0's that have the exact same motor as a regular gt. That's a big swing in viscosity from 5w20 to 5w50. What about the variable valve timing? What about the oil pressure? What about a 5w50 not flowing as fast as a 5w20?
Ford's oil recommendations stink to high heaven! Just my opinion.

Thanks for the fast reply. Spoke with service manager today and I did request detailed documentation. He also said he wanted to strain and flush the current oil, replace it with full synthetic, then bring it back 1k miles later restrain and refill again. I didnt RACE but I did push the car several times on the freeways to feel the power ... (making the change from v6 to GT was the best decision ever)

You could run the blend or even straight dino oil for the life of the car with zero ill-effects as long as it's the proper weight and it's drained at the interval that is required for that oil AND your style of driving. Don't get too paranoid.

Yeah I wouldn't sweat it too much. You're not pushing the motor to a point where the temps are going to get high enough where synthetic would help really. If you're more comfortable with it, go right ahead. I use full synth mainly for the longer change intervals.

Sounds like you are as paranoid as I am. Make sure you keep your records in order and can prove that Ford was the one who made the mistake and if (and thats a big if) something does happen down the line you are covered.

You're worrying far too much, there's nothing to worry about here at all. Of course I'd make the dealership change it out for new like they are planning on, but your engine isn't going to have any ill effects over some time using blend. Heck, you could run only blend for the whole life of your engine and I don't think it would make any difference if you changed it regularly.
