5.0 Engine Knocking at Idle
 

My car has now been in the shop for 2 weeks. Completely stock, 2012 GT daily
Driver. Engine started knocking 10k miles after 2nd oil change from dealer. Oil levels were fine. Very loud knocking - took the vehicle in and they couldn't believe what they heard. They claim first pass fix was to replace lifters (no fix) then replaced a bunch of tensioner components(no fix), and now are replacing the head (back ordered). Field engineers have been on site. My car is famous amongst the mechanics - to me it's just simply Found on Road Dead.

At some point you would think they would replace the engine! Sounds like the loudest diesel you have ever heard. I'm losing patience - especially considering they don't provide a loaner car at Mac Haik Ford in Georgetown Tx. When I found that out, I wanted to take it to a different dealer, but they wouldn't let me without voiding the warrantee - stating expected damage to result from driving...

Wow. They shouldn't be guessing, they should know. So it doesn't increase with rpm?

It does increase with rpm but quiets as the RPM increases. There is a video on YouTube of an f150 that is exactly my sound

I found the guy in an f150 forum - many dealers tried to call it normal - eventually they replaced the entire engine due to a warped cylinder in #4. For now - looks like Ford is happy guessing.

My 03 Lincoln aviator has a knock present. It's very common in the aviator heads and 03-04 cobra heads. Which is the same I believe. Good luck! Sux that these ford techs are clueless.....

I have Mac Haik by my house in Desoto.

Not impressed with their service. Parts, sales, or service. On my (now) old GT, anytime I wanted parts, I went through a different dealer.

Wait, they don't provide you with a loaner? Do they have **** for brains?

Try and get in touch with the ford rep on this forum. They should be providing you a loaner. Tow it to another dealer if you need to. They can't void the warranty for that. I doubt they could legally void it for you driving it in its current state either.

could have had it towed to the new dealership. Also ford should be willing to provide compensation for a rental, you should tell them this.

I nearly had it towed - seems my dealer is one of the few that doesn't provide a loaner. I have been carpooling and renting as needed. I have been looking around online - this seems to be a known issue that usually presents itself after an oil change and has typically resulted in engine replacement. Every car manufacturer has their bugs to work out... There have been enough similar issues of this that Ford should have it figured out by now.
