Arrow 2009 Mustang Boss - TRUTH REVEALED

2009 Mustang Boss

The car the never happened, but almost was.

This is a short article detailing a Mustang that Ford did not build. Since, I no longer work for Ford Motor Company I feel that I can reveal the truth. It was originally designed to be a limited edition 2009 model (in many ways, similar to the successful 2008 Bullitt). Many details about the car have been spread out across the internet, but most are still missing key elements. These details were kept in close confidence to designers and engineers at Ford Motor Company. I have read too many incorrect versions that I have decided to post what Ford was going to build. Most of these modifications are rather simple, but remember this was going to be a last year model (as the next Mustang was already underway). The biggest change for this car was supposedly the new 5.0L (302ci) V8 that Ford Racing now sells. However, because production costs were deemed too high and the fuel mileage too low by Ford- the idea was quickly axed. Yet, Ford still liked the idea of a new Boss and continued design plans. Below is the last list from trusted sources (since the next model is now available). As a fellow car builder, I will never tell anyone how to build their own car. I only ask that if you decide to use the list below, that you complete the entire conversion.

Each car was going to start off as Mustang GT premium model, 4.6L, 5 speed manual transmission. I can imagine that Ford would also have made a 5 speed automatic version, but I cannot confirm this. The car was going to be marketed as a street friendly, road race car (using a manual transmission).

EXTERIOR
1. Side Emblem Delete (factory upgrade)
2. GT grill with lights (p/n 5R3Z8200BAB)
3. GT Styling Pack: Front Chin Spoiler and Rear Trim Panel (deletes fake
rear gas cap) (p/n M-2784-M)
4. GT Rear Spoiler (satin/semi-gloss black) (p/n 5R3Z6344210AAL)
5. Hood Scoop *CHANGED* I discovered that Ford was, in fact, designing a factory shaker hood system (read my post on page 2 for more details). (p/n M-16612-SHK59)
6. Boss Graphics Pack (hood stripe, side stripes with 'BOSS' lettering on the highest edge) (gloss black)

NOTE: HOOD: The hood stripe was fairly wide (approx. 24") with thin pinstripes, and ran the entire length of the hood. SIDES: These started very close to the top of the fenders; were an L shape that ran down and back, ending very closely to the rear quarter marker lights. They also featured a small pinstripe. HOWEVER, the side stripes did NOT connect to the hood stripe- they ran only up to the edge of the fender); strangely, very similar to the Parnelli Jones edition by Saleen

7. Ford Racing 18 inch black 5 spoke wheels (p/n M-1007-S1885B)

NOTE: For vehicles with 16" wheels from the factory: -installing 17" x 8" wheels, use steering stop 4R3Z-3932-BA; installing 18" x 8.5" or 18" x 9.5" wheels, use steering stop 6R3Z-3932-CA. For vehicles with 17" wheels from the factory: -installing 18" x 8.5" or 18" x 9.5" wheels, use steering stop 6R3Z-3932-CA

PERFORMANCE:
8. Special Edition Suspension Package (Springs- front: 6R33-5310-GA, rear: 5R33-5560-AC, Dampers- front: 8R33-18045-JB, rear: 8R33-18080-JB, SVT anti-roll bars {p/n? GT500})
9. Special Edition 8.8 Axle Assembly (3.73 gears, Traction-Lok differential) (p/n M-4001-A373) (factory upgrade)

NOTE: Alternatively, you can install a Ford Racing 3.73 gear set (p/n M-4209-F373N) and Traction-Lok differential (p/n M-4204-F318) to your existing 8.8 inch 31 spline rear axle.

10. Ford Racing Performance Mufflers (p/n M-5230-GTA)

Currently, Ford actually uses it on the FR500S race car. Besides that model- I don't know.

Thanks for the info. Im sure we will see this put out to compete with a Camaro. Maybe that is their strategy, but whatever it is, us p-ons will just have to wait.

The only vehicle that I know using the chin spoiler- is the FR500S.

Your welcome guys.

I cannot positively confirm a Boss edition for 2010+, but I can tell you that Ford was still thinking about it last time I talked to them.

I am thinking that they are using it as a "Secret Weapon" as in... if they release another American Muscle car to compete with the Mustang GT that is faster stock and close in price or something they will drop the Boss right in the middle of the GT and GT500 as a Trim line to help compete but maybe it's just that nothing has come along to cause them to unleash it yet.... just my opinion... or maybe I am an idiot and they just don't have the exact thing they want for it yet..... design/plan wise... only the future will tell. Thanks for this though!

I think they will release a boss in 2010 or 2011 once the new camaro is out in the streets to see what the real street numbers are in so that they can compete with it with the 5.0 L then everyone will be coming back to the mustang once it gets comparable numbers with better gas mileage (hopefully) with a much smaller engine!!
