For those not happy with their 2013 auto dimming mirror...
I replaced the auto dimming mirror in my 2013 with a new OEM standard mirror for $34. Purchased online with fordparts.com and picked up at my local dealer. Learned how to remove the mirror by watching youtube video:
The 2013 model no longer has the Sync mic in the mirror, so replacing it with the standard mirror only costs the auto dimming function, which I found to be less than acceptable. In addition, mine was vibrating so bad the image was just a blur most of the time and buzzed and/or rattle over every tiny bump in the road. I know I probably could have gotten it replaced under warranty, but that would have required a trip to the dealer (at least 3 or 4 hours for me, since my dealer is 45 minutes away) and then no guarantee it wouldn't just start buzzing again in a few months. The new standard mirror is rock solid (no blurring) as it is much lighter and when I flip the switch to dim, it actually dims enough so the headlights behind me aren't distracting anymore. Anyway, it is something easily fixed for very little cost (if you have a 2013). |
Thanks for the good info. Actually, I rather like the auto dimming mirror though. That's why mods are nice... you get the car you want.

FYI: I neglected to mention that the compass is apparently embedded in the mirror, so if you are "directionally challenged" that might be a concern.
