I'm helping a friend put his GT500 back together after an accident. He needs to replace both headlights, which were HID. The replacements are VERY expensive. What about the headlight makes it HID specific? Any possibility of swapping electronics/bulbs from the current HID set to a standard housing?

The HID replacements seem to be about $1000 a pair. The Halogens are about 300.

From what I could recall the replacements are normally like $700/each. Stupid expensive and I could never figure out why either.
