06 4.0 to 14 3.7?
Hey there guys, I am trying to make a decision on what I want to do with my mustang situation. I have a 2006 4.0 mustang with 89K miles on it that I love, but I am getting a little bored of. I have alot of money in upgrades to it, but no matter what the car is still lacking in power and getting up there in miles. Now I am deciding on whether or not I want to trade my car in on a 05-09 GT, or order a 2014 V6 base with a manual and performance package in deep impact blue. I have not driven one yet, but is the 3.7 a big jump in performance over the 4.0? I now its rated at 305HP vs my probably 225 but does it perform like the numbers would suggest? I would be modding it slowly with a CAI/tune, exhaust and things like that. I know for speed I would be better off with a GT but having a brand new car with 0 miles on it sound really good, especially that brand new deep impact blue paint, 13-14 rear tail lights and the cool LEDs in the headlights. has anyone traded in a 4.0 for a 3.7? thoughts?

I can't comment on the 4.0 V6, but I was quite impressed with the new 3.7. I drove it autocross style at Barret Jackson a few years back and while it (obviously) had and felt less torquey than my 05 GT, it handled better IMO and the new ones are pretty damn cool as far as interior as well. If you are thinking new V6, have you thought used 5.0?

I would recommend test driving both vehicles and make a decision from there. ;-)
From what I've read, the GT has a ton of power (torque) at the lower RPM range, which is not the same with the 3.7 liter. The performance gain for the 3.7 liter is more towards the higher RPM range.

Kevin hit the nail on the head. The 3.7 generates it's power in the higher RPM range so you'll need to really wind it out to get close to the feel of the GT's power. A good tune helps but still, it's not a V8 and the torque differences throughout the RPM range are quite noticeable. I suggest you test drive a 3.7, 4.6 and 5.0.
