Used Mustang lighting issues, please help!

I just went and bought a couple coin cells, I couldn't get any of them to work! So I tried using the led that i have in my license plate light (since I know that bulb is good) and it still wouldn't work!

Odd... 99% of the LEDs I've tested with a coin cell will light up, if they are not dead, some brighter than others. The LED for the license plate my be rated for 12 volts...does it have a resistor on it? Here is a link to the basic idea... CLICK HERE

Theres no resistor that I know of!
