Default Shopping On Internet

Anyone ever get this from a dealer when trying to shop a price online? I find a car, looking at 2014 base GT.Msrp is $31545.I send an email asking if they will do xplan pricing,i get replies,"oh sure we do BUT we can do better than xplan pricing.
This just throws up red flags everywhere for me.So basically what they have just told me is,"hey,we appreciate your interest in buying at xplan price but we think you are wanting to give us to much money, lets make a better deal where you can pay us less money!"
Really?Anyone else ever get this? I have gotten this reply from 2 different dealers.

I personally haven't tried to do this, but here are a few things that instantly come to mind:

1.) They want to move some old 2013s off of the lot that have been there awhile.
2.) Customer service.
3.) Try to give you a lower price, but adjust quotes of monthly payments or interest that end up costing you more in the long run.

Quite a few variables, but it might be the case that X-plan is a fixed deal and the dealerships are aware of this and trying to compete with each other as well. Which website did you use? I have read about different tactics for car buying, and I believe when you use Edmonds (can't recall 100%) it will tell the dealer which other dealerships it was sent to. You can look up "game theory" to get a better idea of how it works in your favor.

Default exstended

Some dealers will give you a lower price and push the exstended warranties. watch out for the sheet they show you with the dif. payment numbers.

When I bought my Focus the dealers price was actually lower than X-plan, but after adding document fees their price was higher so I used X-plan.

I bought my 2006 GT 'vert on the X plan back when some dealers were getting 5K over sticker for GTs. When the signing time came, they tried to bully me in to taking extended warranty and other add on extras after I said NO. I finally got them to back off, but they wern't happy about it.
