If it matters any, you'll probably end up doing more shifting with 4.10's, and you'll be shifting out of 1st before you clear the intersection coming off a traffic light or STOP sign. 5th will be somewhat more responsive and hence more useful, 1st a lot less so (and going WOT in it may become just an idle daydream). Around town mpg shouldn't change much, steady-speed highway mpg may drop a little. That 55 mph will probably help hold the amount of mpg loss to a minimum. You'd be geared very close to where I was in another car with shorter tires, 3.73's, and daily driven.

3.73's aren't enough different from the 3.55's that you should have to be worth changing to unless you have some unusual requirement for reaching a certain speed in a particular gear. It's only 5% different, and clearly noticeable change in lots of car performance stuff happens when the changes are at least 10%.

"Don't fear the gear" is not a reason. Just pressure from others to blindly choose without thinking.

I would definitely recommend 4.10 gears if you don't do a ton of highway driving! The reason the rep didn't suggest them for daily driving is because they can be pretty aggressive. Your RPM's are going to rev a lot faster and you'll be at a higher RPM when cruising!

I wouldn't fear the gear. I daily drive my 2011 GT with 4.10's and I love it! Let me know if you have any questions or need some assistance in the near future.

I love 4.10's around town because my auto trans can climb hills in 5th without downshifting, etc. I literally don't have to downshift to pass, ever.

Also if you line up with pretty much anyone at a stoplight, they are gonna have a bad time if they aren't awd. The car rips out of the hole. Top end is meh, but I will race anything 0-60 because of these gears, sticky tires, and auto.

3.73s will make 5th gear look like fourth gear with 3.31s.

Before this thread wraps up, I gotta know.. If I pay AM to send me these 410s, am I not going to pay 3-4x that to have installed? I'm the guy that will do a lot of my own BO installs, but not rear gears.. What should I expect from a tranny shop in $?

Much more than 300 for a gear install and you're paying too much.

Good to know-- is this something that I'm handcuffed on? In other words, can I take it to a decent shop or do I need the best (highest price)?

Yeah, if I remember right, I think I paid about $350 for my gear install. Around town they were great, but for some of the highway driving I did...not so much. Still loved them though!
