Default Thermostat housing q&a

I had a pretty bad coolant leak yesterday, well, though it was the water pump, replaced it. Still leaking. I pulled out the whole thermostat housing and the three plastic stoppers under it are missing. Wondering if that would be the problem. And the plastic is also peeling off of it. I figure I should replace the whole thing.

The thermostat housing on the 4.0 is a known, chronic issue, known for cracking. It's made of plastic. Great idea, Ford.

Hmmm, why make the v6 out of plastic and the v8 out of metal?

When Ford rolled out the 05-09 V6 model, they had no idea how much of a torque monster these baby's would turn out to be lol

OP, sounds like that 100% is gonna be your problem, it's a 1 hour 2 TOPS to get that done and changed out. It'd be a good time to check all hoses for any extra wear and to replace the thermostat itself.
