Default 05 mustang gt transmission issues

i know these transmission have been know to cause some noise and clunks and other things. My transmission shifts fine and has never made a grinding noise however i notice a lot of noise from transmission while driving usually only if i go to take off in 1st but then stop ( like in heavy traffic) it makes a clunk type noise and sounds like everything down there is loose. what is the issue? im concerned because it doesnt seem to have a pattern.. only common thing is it noticable while going over bumpy roads / parking lots with clutch in (disengauged).. thanks for any feedback...

Hmmm that sure doesn't sound good, have you checked the fluid or ever changed it? Thats always a good place to start.

Low fluid can cause issues, check that ASAP.

Sounds a lot like drivetrain/shaft slop to me. I get that a lot when braking hard then following up with heavy acceleration, like a palpable "thunk" from the drivetrain when there is a noticeable shift in the rest of the vehicle's momentum.

A few other owners have complained about this, and a few of them reported that it went away (or significantly reduced) with a good aftermarket one piece driveshaft.

I dont care what anyone here says, you need to take the car to the dealership and have them open up the transmission.
I had noise coming from the transmission on my 06GT that we had before our GT500.

The car drove fine... just had a knocking noise sometimes.
I thought it was the new cams I had installed at a shop.

Well.. took it to my buddy to show off the cams. He is the lead mech at our local Ford dealership.
He was like "hear that sound?" I told him I thought it was the cams.
He then told me it was coming from the tranny and I should let him open it up.

I did.
Turned out I had multiple teeth missing from gears in the transmission!!!!!!
I have a DEEP suspicion the shop that installed the cams did the damage when they dynoed the car or took it for a joy ride after and did it.
No such noise was there before.

Anyways... I had to REPLACE the dang transmission!

Point is... you need to have it checked out.
Don't risk it and just leave it unchecked and put it to the back of your mind.
Have them open up the tranny and check her out.
You will be in better shape no matter what in the long run.

Poly motor mounts, 1 piece drive shaft and a prothane rear end housing bushing will fix you right up.

Thanks for all the great feedback. Driveshaft doors make a bit of a racket in these cars. Changed to Royal purple synchromax and notice l no noise from trans but still a clunking in back. Turns out whoever worked on this car last didn't tighten the wheel lugs enough, they were tight but not enough to stop the wheel from shifting over bumps. I agree with the bushings needing upgrade and also going to fix the bell housing cover rattle.. Lol sounds like a lot

Make sure the mid mount on the DS isn't loose.
