One never knows .... I bought a 1985 Thunderbird with 5.0 in Feb 1986 .... we added TC front, rear spoiler, Konis, 10 spokes, exhaust .... sold it Sept 2009.
In May 1986 bought a 1977 F150 4X4 .... still have it.
Bought a 2001 Merc Grand Marquis Dec 2001, added Addcos, Bilsteins, Exhaust, etc ...., still got it.

Well if you ask my wife - "Forever". Between the '85 I4 Fox (my first car), my '95 Coupe (the major sleeper project), and now the '11. I will "never, ever be allowed to get another Mustang until I sell two others".

Unless I find a 64-67 for a good price...then I might just have to get a divorce.

Same here, the wife says "forever". It's paid off, it's fast, I can't complain.

Forever, barring some major accident.
As far as your friends, tell them you like the style, as far as pulling up athte light, the 2011+ have 5.0s and different styling already, so it shouldn't be too different.

I am keeping mine until I pay off my Wife's SUV. Once I pay it off, I will be looking for a Mustang with more than 6 cylinders, for sure! =)

I'm keeping mine for as long as I can see into the future. I'm just under 75k miles, and when I wear this engine out, it'll just mean it's time for a new built engine and FI. Your car is already obsolete compared to the 5.0s, so what else will the new model bring out that's that much more amazing? Hell, I wanted another SN95 before I got this S197, I just couldn't find a good SN95 and got a good deal on the S197.

i was like..."oh, cool" but got me thinking damn, in a year my cars gonna be totally obsolete! But not too worried because this is the best I can barely afford right now, and its fast enough for me and I like how it looks. And maybe the s550 won't look TOO much different, or maybe some people will like the s197 more? Shoot I know some people who like the sn95 more then the s197!

My dad still prefers his old '65! He says it doesn't matter about what model you got, a Mustang is a Mustang. They are always going to come out with newer and newer models, so don't really worry about it.
Obsolete is a horse and buggy unless you're Amish

As for cars and phones, I've never understood peoples need to have the latest/greatest? Get what You want when You want/can and leave it at that. Just my opinion.

I like not having car payments myself. Most likely your friends parents are making the payments so of course they don't care about that. Why should they?

You need new friends or better self esteem, or both.

Think about selling it fairly often, but don't think I ever could unless I was getting a red '13 GT. As it sits, the car has too much money in it, is paid off and just looks too good to rationalize getting a newer one.

I say keep rocking the S197 and enjoy what you have! There's nothing wrong with an S197 and it's not going out of style anytime soon. I still like the SN95 cars, like you said. It's all about preference, and nothing stays new forever1
