Lowering a car changes your steering geometry. Steering geometry affects tire wear. Even if you have the car aligned you could still have problems. That is why they chuckled.

How much is it lowered?

If it's lowered more than somewhere around 1 1/2 inches you need to have either Caster/Camber mounts or a bump-steer tie rod kit to put the steering geometry back into spec.
