Broken Trunk Latch

So has anyone experienced a broken trunk latch? Sometime it closes sometime it doesn't....slowly getting worse. I saw it on CJ Pony for $85. Easy install?

Have you tried some simple lubrication.....trunk and hood latches like it once in a while.

+1

If it latches intermittently, it may simply be the mechanism hanging up. Lube it as AzPete mentioned. Actually, I'd flush it out heavily with a good solvent like WD40 to get any old hardened grease and gritty stuff out while working the mechanism back and forth and THEN hit it liberally with a good lube. Also check the electrical connections to the solenoid.

+1 on the lube.

I’m not sure if yours has an adjustment, but the latch could be out of alignment too. If thats not it, and a piece of it is truly broken. Then I would hit up a junk yard and get a new (to you) latch. Should cost way less then $85.

It may also need to be adjusted...there are two (maybe three) bolts that secure it to the body. These can be loosened and allows the latch to be adjusted.

Sticking trunk latch

Yep...lubed it. Soaked it with WD40. The latch is sticking. Makes a jamming noise every time I hit the trunk release...

Remove it and look to see if something simple is jamming it. Odd that one would fail.
