I've read a few members that attempted to replace themselves, however they were unsuccessful. Need to be familiar with soldering and have lots of patience.
When the time comes, I will have mine professionally fixed.

Stepper motor. Same thing happened with my Temp and Tach gauges on my 05. Luckily the whole cluster got replaced since the dealer I bought it from didn't seem to mention they weren't working when I bought it.

Common on the '05's and early '06's. I'm surprised you haven't seen the vast # of threads on this.

we were messing with it yesterday, took out the Cylinder head Temp sensor and then the Needle dropped and stopped working. So we figured for $20, lets just change the sensor and see what happens. We changed the Cylinder head Temp sensor and it fixed the problem. I drove it for about 15 minutes and it was reading just under mid, i think the problem is fixed.

that was my next plan, but i would really hate to do it. I can get a used one with same or close to the same miles, but i wanted to try every other option before. Drove the car all night yesterday and it seems to be fine, it is possible that it was just the sensor.

Mine worked sometimes until 3 out of 4 were completely off or didn't work anymore so I am sure its the stepper motor. It doesn't matter the mileage of another cluster, the cluster won't drop in and just work like that because of the PATS system I am pretty sure your car won't start with another cluster. Your local Ford dealership will have to reprogram it for your car, they charged me $80 I believe to do it.

I'm surprised no one noticed that you posted a picture of an OBDII scanner saying 494 C until Andy. That pretty much tells you right there it's a sensor issue.

for the money for a new cluster and programming it, i would just get gauges on the pillar, i need a boost gauge anyway
