local ford dealer saying "we can find you any mustang you want"
 

trying to get an early s197 for my bro and we been having a hard time in our area, however the ford dealer here saying that they can look online and stuff and find us any mustang we want, with exact color, tranny, etc, then ship it to our town. (he meant used, not talking about factory ordering a new one :S )

i never heard a dealer do this before, so does that mean they look on autotrader or something and buy it from another dealer? will it be more expensive to have them bring us a stang rather then trying to find one on our own?

go on ebay and find one yourself

cool, but can i get financing through ebay or something? also do they come with any warranty? looking on ebay most of em are like 200 miles away, so would i have to drive 200 miles, and check it out, then bid?

If you let the dealer find it, they'll charge you up the azz, not just for the car but the finders/shipping fee. 200 miles away isn't that far to drive to find the right car.

As far as warranty, even if you get it from the dealer they'll likely give you a 90 day warranty, if that, and they will balk at fixing anything. So forget a warranty. To do it right, find the car, then find a competent shop to inspect it. If the seller won't agree to an inspection, then forget the car; he's hiding something.

It should be more expensive if you have somebody help you find & bring a car to you.

Normally cars are more expensive at dealers because they offer services that you don't get with private sales. The dealer needs to make money & have a lot of overhead but they can buy cars cheaper than the average person so there is some wiggle room.

A lot of private owners think their rides are worth way more than they are so if you don't do your homework you could over pay for somebody else's problem . I paid less for my last 6 new cars than what people were asking for equally equipped year old ones.

2 years ago I bought a mint used 2008 Avalanche LTZ from a dealer for $5000 less than any of the private listings but I did a lot of looking on my own to know what a good price was.

I would recommend getting financing through a credit union or your bank. If you want to do a trade in, look for a dealer listing on ebay and ask if they take trades

The only dealer I know that search for you just look at all the dealers in their network. They search through their inventory and usually do a trade. So if one person or company owns a lot of dealerships around the area, then it is plausible they could find one. So if they can do it I'd still get financing through a bank or credit union though.
