Shaker CD swap too long?

Shaker CD swap too long?
Hey all,
I have my stock 6 CD changer loaded up with MP3 CDs. Whenever I switch discs, it takes 8-10 seconds to complete the physical swap, then another 10-35 seconds for it to read the folder/file/directory before it starts playing the first track. 20-45 seconds seems like way too long, but this is my first changer so I don't know for sure. Also I'm fairly sure if it was a regular audio CD it would play immediately after the 10 second physical swap time.
Just wondering if this is normal or just me...

Yeah it takes awhile....I dont think it is as long as you said, but it is pretty long.
i especially hate how when you eject a cd, it goes to the next one, then i try to load one right away and it takes forever to go back. Then if you don't load it within the 2 second time frame it gives you, you get to do it all over again. fun fun fun

This is yet another reason why I wish they would've allowed us to delete the Shaker stereo. Aftermarket chagers come with magazines so you can load then in your home, pop it in and they change quickly. I think mine from a previous car was an Alpine. I guess this is Ford's way of telling us to get the IPOD thing...
Were you saying that it was reading a regular CD or an MP3 CD? Usually it takes about 15- 20 seconds to switch between store bought CDs in the Shaker 500 changer. I still haven't tried MP3's as my computer can't burn anything lately... Along with the fact that my GT is still in the shop after 1 month!

RE: Shaker CD swap too long?
I actually timed the changes with a watch, so I can confirm that mine at least was as long as I said. The extra time after the 10 seconds to physically swap discs seems to be dependent on how many files/folders are in the directory. Example: a MP3 CD of hour long DJ mixes had maybe 20 files and only took 8 seconds to read the directory, but another of regular lengths songs had about 100 files and took 35 seconds to read...

RE: Shaker CD swap too long?
It does take the Shaker 500 a bit longer than the CD cartridge system in my Excursion (which won't play MP3s...)
HOWEVER---at least when you change to a CD full of MP3s, it's like changing to about 5 or 6 CDs at the same time so the little extra time is worth it [sm=icon_rock.gif]
