Guys,
EDITED... (removed first sentence after getting more info) Get a good look at the long part number ... They are both the same except for the "-A" or "-B" suffix, and there may be more letters after that, due to a part being revised later in time, so you may get a "AA" or "BA". It would be the first letter in the suffix to pay attention to.

YH-1869 is "-A" and has two prongs. (It DOES have an arm, contrary to what Derf posted ... holding one in front of me now).

YH-1870 is the "-B" suffix and has, 5 or 6 prongs (I forget). Looking at the schematics, it may be used in all three other positions, but I would verify that by looking at the long part number suffix to be sure.

Drives me a bit crazy that they can't just give it one part number and be done with it .. lol.

My bad, I was relying on the images that Rock Auto has for the Ford Motorcraft parts. They have incorrect ones for YH1869. I verified with Images from ford parts this time.

My original Post with part numbers has been fixed. I've also updated it to reflect the OEM numbers to avoid any confusion with the whole A/B thing.

Derf,

No worries ... this is all pretty confusing, given diagrams that are posted on the first page of this post.

I do have to offer one more correction, though .... both parts have an arm attached to them.

Hahahah, I'm an idiot, SMH. Found the problem. I finally decided to look at the invoice from when I ordered the parts. YH1865 is the correct number for the one that is located on the center stack lower passenger side. It is the temperature/blend door actuator and does not have an arm.

YH1869 is that one that I mentioned next to the blower motor (Mode door actuator that controls the air circulation)

That is great having the YH1865 part number. Going to edit my previous remarks. If we keep this up, we will have all the info in one post.

The wife's car is making the tapping noise when the temp control is pushed all the way to either limit - hot or cold, so that one is probably on it's way out, too.

Her solution - just don't turn it all the way. Just as good for now.
I think she feels bad watching me play contortionist to change the other one.
This one would be easy comparatively.

Yeah, my temp one started clicking only when I went all the way to cold. Eventually it would not switch from cold to hot but here in AZ, it's doesn't really matter

In both of my actuators the same gear was broken. The middle white one.

The defrost one bugged me though as there are only a few days a year, I actually use that setting so, to have it break and get stuck in defrost just seemed silly for something I never use.

I get an occasional click when switching from Floor/Passenger compartment to something else, but that's it.
