In southern cali unless you go into the laguna mountains or big bear you wont need chains. Even then, the main roads in the lagunas are usually drivable without them. if you go in through julian or Ramona vs interstate 8 take chains. they tend to keep the interstate well maintained but highway 67 (julian and ramona, not so much)

Big bear, if its snowing, you will need chains just in case.

Never chained the stang up in CO but have ran Blizzaks before. If chain laws are in effect, they are largely ignored here in metro area and most people in the mountains. They usually make it mandatory only for trucks (what ya'll call big rigs).

When I lived in SW CO for a while, yeah I kept a set of cables in the trunk and pulled them out more than a few times. So go for the cables and not a bad idea to get some bungie cords to in order to keep them super tight.

I think this winter I might buy a set of chains for my pickup just in case. Better to have and not need them you know!
