Default questions about shorty headers

I been wanting long tube headers because I know they add good power, but I want to be able to pass all emissions and thinking of going with shorties, are they worth it for cost vs power or should I just keep stock headers?

Also

- With shorty headers can you use them with the stock H-pipe?

- Could I get the Ford Racing shorty headers, then maybe next year get a JBA catted H-pipe, would they fit together and give a nice HP gain?

What exhaust set up would you recommend for me? I like the clean deep sound, like the stock exhaust makes but I guess I'd like it louder... I don't like the raspy and cackling sound I hear on a lot of exhaust clips, especially the idles that sound like metal scraping against each other.

There are a ton videos on youtube for exhaust sound. I personally wouldn't get shorties. H pipe and axlebacks should suffice

So a catted H-pipe (JBA) and flowmasters axleback should add some power?

Also with the s197's, how come most people go for axleback over catback?

Your exhaust will basically give you sound and that's about it. Don't expect any gain even if they advertise it.

Yeah also I noticed the only catted H-pipe AM has is the JBA, and they only work if you have JBA long tube headers :/

So I guess my only option is just catback or axleback, and if its all just for sound I guess I should just get some flowmasters Axle back.

I have a BBK catted h-pipe bought from AM that mounted directly onto the sock 06 GT manifolds, FRPP axle backs. Sound was great, fit was great. I just added BBK ceramic shorty tuned headers to the mix and again sound is great, fit great. I can't speak to more power, lots on here re pros and cons, I have the sound and look I've been looking for. Oh and mine's a garage queen, 13k miles on it. Best of luck and have fun.

AM doesn't sell a catted h-pipe for our cars that fits with stock manifold/catback, but they do sell a catted bbk x-pipe which will fit stock manifolds and catback, also your sig says you got a catted x-pipe as well.

But I'm not worried too much about exhaust, I was wondering what I could do with shorties and if it would even be worth it. Guess I'll just save the cash for when I trade in for a s550.

Shorties provide minimal gain as compared to LT's and, IMO, aren't worth the $$ lay-out but it's all a matter of preference if you can afford it. They're better than nothing but you won't quite see the gains available from cams with shorties as you would with LT's.

Catbacks are, also IMO, not worth the expense since the stock midpipes flow very well. This is why many folks will go with axlebacks over catbacks; either for improved exhaust note only. If you're counting every possible RWHP gain and have sufficient funds, then buy EVERYTHING.

Yea my bad, its an x-pipe, so sorry. And yes Nuke this investment is all about sound versus power, and I do get a lot of compliments on the sound my ride makes. Cheers
