Hello to everyone. i am new to the forum. My 40 year old nephew purchased a new 2014 GT in 2013. It has the electronic package with navigation, reverse sensors, track pack and he added the 2013 Boss 302 quad exhaust. I told him I would like to purchase it when he decided to sell it. He was always very particular over his ownership period. I purchased the car on June 29, 2020. I am 64 years old and love driving the car. I was replacing the fuel filter which I learned was behind the plastic shield covering the fuel lines under the car on the driver's side. Once the cover was replaced I did not see the filter. supply and return line were both solid metal lines. There has been no mods to the engine, no tuners installed, etc. Per my nephew he never had the fuel filter replaced. Car has 80,000 very pampered miles. What am I missing here. Did some only rely on "in tank" filters. I would appreciate any and all assistance. Thanks.

I thought it was moved inside the fuel tank on the fuel pump on the Coyotes. I think only the Shelby's still have a replaceable filter.

The fuel filter is in the gas tank on the 2011+ GT and V6 Mustangs. It is considered a life time part. I wouldn't worry about until the fuel pump starts going bad. Should be good for a long time

That was a very dumb idea by Ford. Since when has a fuel filter been a lifetime part?
Much like fitting automatic transmissions without a dipstick to check the fluid level. Another dumb idea.

I agree with you. Couldn't find a fuel filter to buy on Ford's parts website. Just the whole fuel pump on sale for $421 Normal price of over $500

Just did a quick internet search and almost all the big name auto parts stores will show an inline fuel filter that 'they' say will fit, It doesn't..........

It's all word play by the manufacturers.

Most moves by manufacturers, not just Ford, to make things less serviceable and calling them "lifetime" is to use a marketing tool/gimmick.

VW/Audi also have dipstickless transmission and call their fluids lifetime. Ford doesn't even mention brake fluid it's its maintenance schedule. Fuel filters are also going this way. My daughter had a 2006 nissan sentra a few years ago. It had a "lifetime" fuel filter just like the newer stangs.

Anyways, my point is, manufacturers do not care about life(time) after the warranty period has expired or after someone pays off the car Therefore, when you buy a new car they tout it as low maintenance because it needs nothing but maybe an oil change or two according to their requirements and life (of the warrranty).

Even then people complain so, some mfgs. (like VW and hyundai) include 'FREE MAINTENANCE" for the length of the warranty. Basically a couple of oils changes and maybe an air filter. Again, most people eat that crap up and beg for more. Then bitch because a slightly used car they buy has all sorts of stupid problems related to bad fluids or improper maintenance because the dealer says it's "lifetime".

What most people don't understand is that Lifetime simply means as long as the part is operational and is shorter if you don't do any maintenance vs a longer lifetime if you PREVENTATITVE maintenance. Simple wordplay/semantics which the average person doesn't understand.

In simple terms, lifetime means for the lifetime of the warranty, not the lifetime of the car.
