I have a 09 Gt was wondering if I could replace the 4.6 motor with a 05-06 motor with out any problems? I know they have differences. And have any of you guys with a 09 Gt replaced your motors with the older year models successfully? Thank you

I wouldn't put an 05-06 into an 09. There are some minor differences that may affect how the PCM sees the engine.. First is that the CMCV plates are integrated to the manifold on 09 models vs separate on older models. Harness connection may have changed. 2nd, the cooling system routings are different for the 05-06 than newer models. Lastly, the heads...05 to early 08 had a different head assembly that required the use of a two-piece (junk) plug that was prone to breaking off the head during replacement. Late 08 (engines built after Nov 2007 for the 08 model year) have revised heads that do not have that issue.

Those are the three things I can think of off the top of my head.

The blocks are completely interchangeable, the heads are different, the manifold is different, and the water crossover is different... None of these differences are critical as far as operation goes.

You can use any '05-'10 short block.
