Default 05 GT knocks after extended idling

After I idle for long periods of time it will start to knock. If I rev it up or start moving along the noise will go away. I can drive it normally for hours & it will not occur at all. It will how ever hesitate a little when I take off sometimes spit & sputter a little too. The oil is all good, no metal shavings, coolant is also good. It does not smoke nor burn any oil between changes. I am putting it in the shop in a week to get it diagnosed but would like to get a little idea about what I could be looking at so they don't try to bilk me. Me being a woman many shops sure will try it. My car is all stock. Could it be vacuum issues, oil pressure issues or sensors? Someone please help.

is it a knock or a ticking noise? im wondering if maybe your timing chain tensioners are starting to fail. I believe if I remember right that they are regulated by oil pressure to keep tension on the timing chains. if at idle your oil pressure drops the chains may go slack and slap against the timing cover. upon acceleration your oil pressure increases as does the pressure on the tensioners and chain hence the noise going away. just a idea on where to start looking. I think these early s197 cars have very picky problems. make sure your using 5w20 oil as recommended by Ford. I see you have an 05' as do I. how many miles on your stang? just another thing to keep tabs on. good luck

I have 114,000. Yes always use 5w20. It is definitely a knock. My gauges never so drop in oil pressure but that really doesn't mean anything they might not be working properly. A friend of mine said something about it could be the same thing. Thank you for your reply
