Default 06 Mustang Engine Cutting Out

Hello everyone,

I am a long time viewer of this forum but a new member. I am on my 3rd Mustang now. This car was a 1966 Mustang Coupe with the inline 200 6 cylinder and midnight blue paint. Beautiful car and my lifes greatest mistake by selling her. Second car was a 1995 Mustang GT 5.0. Black on black with 3.73 gears. Car has 200,000 miles and still going (although its on its 4th transmission). This February I purchased a 2006 Roush Stage 1 Mustang. Wasn't to sure as to how satisfied i would be with the 4.6L until i drove this car and fell in love with it. I think that the CAI and Longtube headers matched with the off-road X pipe and Pipes M-80's added to the love for the drive and sound of the car as well! Plus for an 06 with only 60,000 miles it was a heck of a deal.

As you can see from my car history I am an avid Mustang fan and have always been able to do all my own diagnostics. However with the new Roush I am experiencing an issue i have yet to be able to figure out. When i bought the car it had an exhaust leak for the headers. When driving and shifting from 5th to 3rd of 4th to accelerate for passing or merging into traffic the engine would cut-out for about 1 second almost as if the traction control was activated then it would run up through the RPM's. I thought that the exhaust leak may have been causing the engine to run to lean and there just not be enough fuel for the acceleration but after i fixed the leak it still is having the same issue.

Has anyone else experienced this type of problem?

When accelerating from a dead stop and really giving it the gas the car can chirp the 285 40/18's when shifting into 4th but I really dont think the traction control is coming on when im going 60-70 mph on the interstate and downshift to pass an annoying line of traffic.

My major concern lies with the CAI and long tube headers. I feel like the previous owner (who did all the mods to the car) did not get the car properly tuned for these additions (although the O2 back sensors have been turned off as no check engine light comes on).

Wanted to check on here before I went and spent hundreds of dollars on a tune and tuner from American Muscle. Any suggestions will be tried as this is a very annoying problem.

Thanks for reading.

I would try cleaning the MAF sensor, Throttle Body, and Filter first.

I would check the fuel filter as well for peace of mind. When they get dirty enough, it has been known to cause hesitation issues.

Have you tried turning the TCS off to see if it does it while it's off?

From what I've heard, with an SC, you don't WANT the TCS engaged, period. It will cut fuel, adjust timing (I think) and can damage the engine and/or the SC. We'll let the SC'd guys chime in.

Nuke I talked to brent about this subject and from my understanding it has something to do with the blades in the throttle body. When he took me on my drive after the engine was built he left the TCS on and gave her the onion. That's when I asked about the timing and so on for the TCS. So from what he said that has been untrue but I thought that as well

According to Ford, the older model car's cut timing, I'm not sure exactly how the 05-09 actually work... I always run with it off personally. Even in the rain, I just take it easy.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will give them all a shot and see if this solves the problem. Will let everyone know if these suggestions help so that someone else can look here for help with the same issue.

im pretty sure since your car is a roush car, that its been pretuned by roush. you wont be able to do anything with a handheld tuner to your car without some hacking software. basically its "locked" and only roush can adjust the tune for you.
